Nursing CE Leader Care2Learn Launches
New Director of Nursing Certification Program Online from the
American Association of Long Term Care Nursing (AALTCN)

The Director of Nursing in LTC program is the first in a series of exclusive online certification programs for long-term care nurses offered through a partnership between web-based Nursing CE leader Care2Learn and the American Association for Long Term Care Nursing.

Tampa — Care2Learn, Inc., the leader in online nursing CE and compliance training for post-acute care professionals, recently launched the Director of Nursing in LTC: DON-CLTC™ Certification Program—the first in a series of exclusive certification programs developed in collaboration with the AALTCN. Each program has been adapted from AALTCN’s highly popular series of certification programs and converted by Care2Learn’s expert nursing CE course design and development team into interactive and easy-to-use online programs.

The Director of Nursing in LTC: DON-CLTC™ is a 20-hour program that examines all aspects of the DON’s role in the long-term care facility and provides critical education about residents’ rights and care planning; personnel and financial management; and overseeing facility administration. The program is accredited for nursing CE. Four unique course modules within the DON Certification Program focus on LTC training and include:

  • Administration of the Nursing Department in LTC Facilities: Examines responsibilities of the LTC administrative staff; policy and procedure preparation; staffing needs; budget preparation and facilitation of interdepartmental teamwork
  • Leading and Developing Nursing Staff: Examines the role of the DON in LTC staff development; explores recruitment, hiring, supervision, performance appraisal, staff development, time and stress management, union contracts and fair labor laws

  • Resident Assessment and Care: Covers resident assessment and care planning with a focus on MDS 3.0; includes managing clinical emergencies, safe medication administration, and infection control

  • Creating a Safe, Caring Culture: Outlines the major legal risks in the nursing home setting; examines residents’ rights; quality improvement programs; seven ethical principles for health care professionals; and complementary and alternative therapies in long-term care

“The partnership between Care2Learn and the AALTCN represents a milestone in long-term care education,” says Ryan Sparks, General Manager and Vice President of Enterprise Sales for Care2Learn. “This new DON certification program and the others that will follow really provide a unique opportunity for today’s healthcare professionals to get the training they need from the best in the business. This program really demonstrates the commitment to excellence in education shared by both Care2Learn and the AALTCN.”

"The long term care nursing community has expressed need to enhance competencies to meet the complex demands of today's long term care settings and the challenge in obtaining convenient, affordable, high quality education to achieve this," comments AALTCN Executive Director Charlotte Eliopoulos. "Combining Care2Learn's expertise in using state-of-the-art online education with AALTCN's leadership in developing certification programs that support contemporary professional practice meets this need and serves to advance long term care nursing."
