He attended the University of Cincinnati where he majored in marketing and management, and also graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, affiliated with Xavier University. Ron has served the profession of nursing in various capacities for the past 22 years, from his first nursing position at Shriner’s Burn Institute for Children to his most recent position as Director of Operations and Professional Services for NADONA/LTC. During his 5+ years with them, Ron strategically positioned NADONA/LTC to become one of the most respected professional nursing associations in long term care. Some of the accomplishments included expanded education resources and support for members, a 300% increase in membership and growth in annual revenue from $400,000 to $3 million.
Prior to joining NADONA/LTC Ron worked for the Hill-Rom Company in the Long Term Care Division for 12 years. He was one of the first to work in the Long Term Care market, visiting thousands of LTC facilities across the United States to educate nurses on pressure ulcer management. Ron was promoted through the ranks of Hill-Rom in a variety of sales positions and eventually managed the National Accounts Group. As the Director of National Accounts Ron lead his team to provide pressure ulcer support programs and products for nearly all major LTC chains. His career also includes serving as Director of Sales and Marketing for Caretenders of Ohio where he was responsible for supervising the visiting nurse program, many times providing direct care to homecare patients and working as a Medical Case Manager for Intracorp, a division of Cigna, coordinating care for catastrophic cases. Mr. Romano has spent the majority of his 26 year professional career caring for older adults who required long term care and is a well-respected member in the LTC profession.
The Long Term Care Profession has long been a personal and professional passion of Ron’s. He is excited about the opportunity to continue to support the specialty of LTC Nursing and the nursing staff who commit so much on a daily basis to provide care and comfort to residents. Ron’s decision to join the American Association of LTC Nursing (AALTCN) is motivated by the desire to make a greater contribution through uniting all categories of nurses who practice in long term care. This will be accomplished through providing educational resources, advocacy, and promoting a positive image of the specialty of long term care nursing.
